Ramy Bensebaini's Latest News at Borussia Dortmund: Teammate Sues for Contract Breach
Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that Ramy Bensebaini has been ruled out of action for the rest of the season with a knee injury.
The Moroccan defender was injured in the first half of Saturday's 1-1 draw against Wolfsburg and will undergo surgery later this week.
Bensebaini joined Dortmund from Real Madrid in January and has made 22 appearances for the club, scoring one goal.
He has also played regularly under new head coach Lucien Favre, who took over after Jurgen Klopp left to manage Liverpool.
However, Bensebaini's contract with Dortmund expired at the end of last month and he is now seeking a new club.
His agent, Hervé Renard, said: "We're going to try and find a solution for Ramy."
Meanwhile, another player at Dortmund, Julian Brandt, has also been sidelined with an ankle injury.
Brandt, who signed for Dortmund from Bayern Munich in January,Ligue 1 Express has been out since mid-March and is expected to miss the remainder of the season.
Brandt has scored four goals in 16 appearances for Dortmund this season and is considered one of the club's top players.
Dortmund have also suffered a further blow as they face the prospect of losing their captain, Mats Hummels, to Arsenal in the summer transfer window.
Hummels, who joined Dortmund from Bayern Munich in 2015, has made more than 300 appearances for the club and is considered one of the best defenders in Europe.
Despite his age, Hummels remains one of the most respected players in German football and is likely to be sought after by other clubs in the coming months.
In addition to these injuries, Dortmund have also struggled defensively this season, conceding 24 goals in 17 games so far this season.
This has led to speculation about the future of manager Lucien Favre, who is currently under pressure to turn things around at the club.
With so many key players missing through injury or suspension, it remains to be seen whether Dortmund can maintain their place in the top tier of European football this season.
